Rebels Open Season Monday In Albuquerque

Sept. 10, 2017

LAS VEGAS ( - The two-time Mountain West defending champions will open the 2017-18 campaign at University of New Mexico's Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational for the third cosecutive year.

With two of the most experienced Rebels from last year's squad lost to graduation and two returnees out for health and injury issues, the UNLV lineup will feature a few new faces. The Rebels will have their senior leader Mackenzie Raim, who is a two-time All-Mountain West First Team selection, leading the way with juniors Alyssa Getty and Elizabeth Prior out for a few weeks. Junior Shannon Oh and sophomore Alli Kim also return after getting some valuable tournament experience last year, while two new freshmen - Polly Mack and Cathy Liu - join the ranks and will play in their first collegiate tournaments on Monday and Tuesday in New Mexico. Mack and Liu may be rookies in the collegiate scene, but the Germany and China natives, respectively, have plenty of experience on the international circuit, and that should lend well to success at UNLV.

The Rebels are coming off back to-to-back league championships and the third overall under head coach Amy Bush-Herzer. The 2016 and 2017 titles marked the first time the team had accomplished consecutive championships since UNLV won three-straight from 2004-06, while the Rebels played in their 15th straight NCAA regional.

The 2016-17 Rebels saw three players earn All-Mountain West honors, with Raim and now departed Alexandra Kaui earning first team selections and Prior picking up a second team nod.

UNM's annual tournament will be played at the UNM Championship Golf Course, a par-72 6,317-yard course in Albuquerque, N.M. Participants will be playing in threesome, with parings for each round being determined by team score. Play will get underway each morning at 7:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start. UNLV is paired with Colorado and UC Davis for round one.

Joining the Lobos will be Washington State, Oklahoma State, Texas, Pepperdine, Stanford, Northwestern, San Diego State, UC Berkley, Iowa State, Iowa, Central Arkansas, Fresno State, Denver, Arizona, UC Davis, University of Colorado-Boulder and UNLV.
