LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Playing in its first game of the season away from home, UNLV finished with a 0-0 double-overtime tie with South Dakota State in the first game of the Kansas Invitational, held at the KU Soccer Complex. Both teams moved to 1-1-1 on the year with the draw decision.
Though the Jackrabbits finished the game with a slight 11-10 edge on shots, it was the Rebels that were getting the most from their offense, with a 7-3 advantage on shots on goal. However, SDSU goalkeeper Elisa Stamatakis was strong in the net, coming up with seven saves to earn a shutout, while UNLV goalie Kylie Wassell was credited with two saves on the day for her second shutout of the season.
A pair of Rebels finished the afternoon with two shots each on goal, freshman forward Alexis Peterson and junior midfielder Julie Owens. UNLV held the edge on corner kicks as well for the afternoon, 8-5.
UNLV will close out action in the Kansas Invitational by taking on the host Jayhawks on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 11 am (PST).
