Sept. 1, 2017

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, California (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's soccer found itself on the wrong end of some late game heroics as Sacramento State scored with less than three minutes remaining in regulation Friday afternoon to hand the Rebels their first defeat of the 2017 season. The loss ends UNLV's 14-game regular season unbeaten streak dating back to last season and keeps the Rebels from setting a record for best start in program history. UNLV also suffered its first shutout of the season and is now 4-1, while Sacramento State improves to 2-2.

The Rebels entered the game with a top-10 offense in the country, but Sacramento State found a way to shut them down, limiting them to single digit shots for the first time this year.

THE TURNING POINT: The match looked as if it was headed for overtime after 86 minutes of scoreless play, but the Hornets used some home field magic, scoring on a header to stun the Rebels minutes before the final clock sounded.

STAT OF THE GAME: The Rebels offense couldn't get going Friday afternoon as they were limited to single-digit shots and out-shot 10-9, both firsts for 2017.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Midfielder Katie Ballou had a team-high four shots in the game.

QUOTABLE:
"Not a good performance. Give credit to Sac State for defending well and limiting our chances. We have to be better though and find a way to get results on the road" - Head Coach Chris Shaw
