LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the young 2003 season by defeating Southern Utah 5-2 on Wednesday at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Four different Rebel players scored goals en route to victory. Michelle Cowles got things started off a Nickie Olson assist in the fifth minute to open the scoring. The second goal wasn't scored until about 50 minutes later in the 55th minute by Erin Egertson off Annii Magliulo's short crossing pass.
Magliulo scored her third goal of the season off another assist by Olson to give UNLV a 3-0 lead in the 65th minute.
Southern Utah's Chaysie Call scored on a 35-yard shot that was deflected in by a defender in the 70th minute to give the Thunderbirds their first goal of the season.
Three goals were scored in the last 5:33 of play. UNLV's Lori Sakai scored off a Hayley Jones throw-in, Southern Utah responded with a Katie Baugh (Call assisted) goal in the 86th minute and Egertson closed out the scoring with her second goal of the night with 27 seconds left to play off of an assist by Erica Storch.
UNLV recorded 39 shots for the match and held a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal.
UNLV will travel to San Diego, Calif., to play USD on Friday, Sept. 5 and will be back home to host Tennessee on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
