DAVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UC Davis scored two first half goals and held UNLV off the scoreboard as the Rebels were handed a 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon in college women's soccer action from Aggie Soccer Field.
The shot totals were mostly even, with UC Davis (5-1) holding a 13-10 overall edge, and a 4-3 edge on shots on goal over UNLV (2-5-1). The first goal of the game came in the 27th minute, when Kylie Wassell stopped a shot by Allison Kelly, but Lisa Kemp collected the rebound and scored for a 1-0 Aggie lead. The edge would go to 2-0 in the 43rd minute on a score by Annacy Wilson, with Lexi Poppoff credited for an assist on the score.
Three Rebels finished with one shot on goal each, while Katherine Orellana had a team-high three shots for the game. Wassell finished with two saves on the afternoon, while Maria Magana posted three saves to earn the shutout for UC Davis.
The Rebels return to action on Friday, when they host the UNLV Nike Invitational. UNLV will take on Seattle on the first day on Friday at 7 pm, while Hawaii will be the opponent on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 pm on the second day of the tournament. Both games are at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Sunday is also two-for-one ticket day, while all fans that bring a stub from the UNLV-Hawaii football game will also receive free admission.
