LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - With exactly 60 seconds left in the contest, UNLV defender Kristin Sankeyposted the first golden goal of her career on Sunday afternoon to give UNLV a 1-0 double-overtime win at Idaho in women's college soccer action from Wicks Field. The Rebels, 5-2-1 on the year with the win, improved to 3-2-1 on the road though the first month of the season, while Idaho dropped to 0-7.
The Rebels held an 18-12 edge on shots overall for the afternoon, and took eight on goal. The Vandals came up with two saves in each half though, as well as two in the first overtime. UNLV took a total of 12 shots in regulation, with four in the first half and eight in the second, and were credited with three in each overtime period. The game-winner came after an Idaho foul, which gave UNLV a free kick 35 yards away from the goal. Sankey took the kick for the Rebels, and sent a shot that hit the upper right post and into the goal for the score, the second of her career.
Kylie Wassellposted four saves in net to earn her fourth shutout of the season and 23rd of her career. Idaho played two goalkeepers, with Marian Siegl collecting two saves and Torell Stewart five after playing the final 64 minutes of the contest. UNLV finished with an 8-6 edge on corner kicks.
