CEDAR CITY, Utah - Freshman Nickie Olson (Las Vegas) scored two second half goals enroute to the UNLV women soccer team's 3-0 shutout of Southern Utah Tuesday night at Thunderbird Soccer Field.
With 23:20 on the clock, senior co-captain Cosette (Joffs) Packer (Henderson, Nev.) scored her second game-winning goal of the season on a header at the center of the box off a deflection from senior Kelly Janke (Bellflower, Calif.) to put the Rebels up one. Packer currently leads the team in scoring with 10 points on five goals and holds a three-game goal streak.
Olson, a local product out of Centennial High School, continued scoring in the second half, taking advantage of a rightside pass from senior Melicia Wright (Kingston, Jamaica) at 49:01. In the 78th minute, Olson headed the ball off a cross to the upper left corner from freshman Angie Inzana (Littleton, Colo.) to complete the 3-0 shutout.
Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Huff (Huntington Beach, Calif.) earned her second shutout of the year with eight saves in net, while Southern Utah's Megan Flowers had 11 saves on 30 shot attempts by UNLV.
The Rebels (5-1-1) remain on the road this weekend with a pair of non-conference matches versus Northern Arizona on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. and Arizona State on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m.
