LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Three different players scored and UNLV posted its third shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Hawaii in the final game of the UNLV Nike Invitational in college women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Memorial Field. The Rebels snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 3-6-1 on the year , while the Rainbow Wahine dropped to 1-8.

For the second straight game UNLV posted an early goal on the scoreboard. This time it was thanks to a Hawaii foul that led to a free kick a few yards outside of the box. Julie Owens took the kick for UNLV, and sent a shot high to the back top right corner of the goal, putting the Rebels up 1-0 in the sixth minute. It was the first career score for Owens.

That was also the only score of the game for the next 80 minutes. UNLV attempted a total of 17 shots in the game, to 11 for Hawaii, and the advantage on shots on goal was 9-4 in favor of the Rebels. An insurance goal was added in the 87th minute, when two Rebels broke free from the defense and had a breakaway with only Hawaii goalkeeper Kanani Taaca to stop them. Orellana kept the ball and sent a shot through Taaca to the back of the net from 18 yards out for a 2-0 UNLV advantage. Courtney Botelho, a Hawaii native, was credited with an assist on the score.

Less then 90 seconds later UNLV again had a two player advantage on a breakaway, and this time Orellana passed the ball to the left side for Jenn Wolfe, who tapped in the shot for an easy score in the 89th minute. Once again Botelho assisted on the score, giving her a team-high four this year, while the goal by Wolfe was her team-high third of the season.

Rebel goalkeeper Kylie Wassell posted four saves on the way to her third shutout of the season. Taaca finished with six saves and three goals allowed for Hawaii.

UNLV will play its next two games on the road, beginning with a Friday contest at Long Beach State at 4 pm. That will be followed by a Sunday, Sept. 25 game at Cal State Fullerton at 1 pm.
