Sept. 19, 2004
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior midfielder Kayla Lockaby scored twice to lead seventh-ranked Tennessee past UNLV 3-0 in women's collegiate soccer action on Sunday afternoon at the UT Soccer Complex. It was the first loss in the last six games for the Rebels (4-2-1), while the Lady Vols improved to 3-2-2.
Tennessee scored the game-winner 15:30 into the match, when Sue Flamini stole a pass at midfield and fed Emily Redberg on a breakaway. Redberg took on UNLV goalie Jenna Huff one-on-one and sent a shot past her into the goal for a 1-0 UT lead. Lockaby added to the Lady Vol lead 15 minutes later, as at the 30:37 mark she collected a shot that bounced off the goalpost and blasted it in for the score. She finished the scoring at 86:51 with her second score of the day, off assist from Redberg and Genna Gorman
Huff finished with six saves in goal for UNLV, while UT's Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart posted five to earn her third shutout of the season. The Lady Vols held a 14-9 edge on shots, including 9-1 in the first half.
The Rebels will return to action this week as they host San Diego on Friday at 7 pm at Peter Johann Field.
