SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - With just over five minutes left in the second overtime, San Jose State's Lupita Estrada came up with a golden goal off a header to give the Spartans a 1-0 win over UNLV in a Mountain West women's soccer road contest for the Rebels on Friday night at Spartan Stadium. Both teams moved to 1-2 in league play following the overtime contest, the fifth of the year for UNLV.

The first half saw the Spartans (2-9) hold a 6-3 edge on shots, forcing UNLV (6-5-2) goalkeeper Kylie Wassell to come up with three saves. Both teams were more on target in the second half, with UNLV holding a 6-5 advantage on shots, while both goalkeepers posted three saves each. With the game going into overtime, Wassell stopped both Spartan shots in the first extra period, while UNLV misfired on its shot, sending the contest to a second overtime. The scoring play started midway through the period with SJSU on the attack down the right side. The ball was sent high over to the left side, where Alexis Venegas sent the ball into the box into the middle of several Spartan players. That drew Wassell further out from the goal, and Estrada would leap up and head the ball high to the back right of the goal, ending the game at 104.39 with the winning score.

The final shot advantage was 15-10 in favor of SJSU, 9-4 on shots on goal, and 6-3 in corner kicks. Wassell finished with seven saves for the game, while UNLV also came up with a team save. Sarah Peplinski came up with the shutout for the Spartans after collecting four saves on the night.

UNLV returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 pm at Fresno State. That game will be available on the Mountain West Network, and can be watched on UNLVRebels.com.
