LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
UNLV women’s soccer topped Utah State 3-0 in a Mountain West match on Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field with three unanswered goals in the second half. The Rebels improve to 7-8-0, 2-4-0 while the Aggies drop to 7-7-1, 2-4-0.
The half was scoreless as each school limited scoring chances and most of the shots came outside the box. UNLV had four shots on goal while Utah State had two.
The second half was all UNLV as the Rebels created numerous scoring chances. The scoring opened up in the 57th minute when Jodi Barber scored her team-leading and fifth goal of the year. Barber received a cross from Denali Murnan and booted the ball just inside the right side of the box. Jordan Magnin doubled the lead in the 74th minute when she headed in a ball off a free kick from Kendall Sandoval for her first goal of the season. Brittney Gideon added another insurance goal in the 77th minute. Gideon dribbled down the middle of the field and shot it into the right corner of the net for the final goal of the game.
Goalkeeper Jessie Clark earned her second win of the season in her third straight start. Clark recorded five saves in the game.
UNLV had a 21-13 shot advantage in the game. The Rebels put 10 of those shots on the goal. Magnin had five shots, three on goal, and Barber and Gideon both had three shots.
UNLV plays both conference games at home next weekend. First up is Wyoming on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
