LAS VEGAS - Freshman midfielder Michelle Cowles (Littleton, Colo.) wasted no time in overtime, scoring the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute to send the UNLV women's soccer team past Wyoming, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Cowles connected on a left side cross pass from sophomore Annii Magliulo (Pengrove, Calif.), hitting the bottom corner of the net for her second goal of the season.
Wyoming would take the early lead in the first half, as junior Tuva Gulbrandsen ran on a through ball from teammate Lindsey Vossbrink, to net the game-opening goal at 28:06.
Looking to level the match, freshman Nickie Olson (Las Vegas) scored off a pass from junior Rachael Buscovich (Santa Rosa, Calif.) to rally a Rebel comeback in the 67th minute. Both teams could not find the back of the net in the remaining minutes of regulation, leading to the eventual overtime period.
Wyoming goalkeeper Lori Scheider made six saves in goal on 17 UNLV shots. Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Huff (Huntington Beach, Calif.) earned her eighth win of the year in the Rebels' last home match of the season.
UNLV raises its record to 10-4-1 overall, 2-1 MWC, while Wyoming drops to 4-10-1 overall, 0-4 MWC.
The team travels North this weekend to take on league rivals BYU on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Provo and Utah on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m in Salt Lake City.
