LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer team saw its season end with a 3-0 loss on Friday night at No. 6 San Diego State in the semifinals of the Mountain West Championships at the SDSU Sports Deck. Despite the loss, the Rebels, under first-year head coach Michael Coll, finished the year with a program-best overall winning percentage (12-4-4, .700) as well as the fewest losses in school history. SDSU meanwhile improved to 18-1-1 to advance to Sunday's championship game against New Mexico on the Aztecs' home field.
UNLV fell behind in the 4th minute off a goal by Hannah Keane, who scored off a rebound after Haley Palmer's shot hit the crossbar. SDSU added to the lead in the 26th minute on Megan Jurado's shot to the upper corner for a 2-0 edge, and that would be the halftime score as well.
The Rebels were held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes, but evened up attempts with SDSU in the second half with four each. UNLV was not able to get past Aztec goalie Rachel Boez however, while Haley Locker posted the third goal of the night in the 67th minute for a 3-0 advantage for the top seed.
SDSU finished with a 10-4 edge on shots, and 6-2 on shots on goal, while also taking four corner kicks to one for the Rebels. Kylie Wassell finished with three saves in the net for UNLV, and Boez posted two for a shutout for the Aztecs.
