LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Adrianna Guida, starting outside back for the UNLV women's soccer team, has been given the opportunity to attend a prestigious conference in Faro, Portugal. The 26th International Tourism Student Conference (ITSC) in 2011 is being held at the University of the Algarve in Portugal. This event has been created and designed to foster the development of tourism research and cultural exchange in the international student population. UNLV has participated in the annual event at several points in the past.
Guida was offered this opportunity following an intensive application and interview process. An undisclosed amount of students in the hospitality management major applied for consideration in this unique experience. This group was narrowed to six final candidates. Each of the six individuals interviewed personally with the professors in charge of the program this year. The final four students were selected from this interview process. Guida was selected based upon her academic credentials and experience in conducting research.
Over the past three months, her group constructed a research paper relevant to the topic of the conference this year: "Crisis Management in the Tourism Industry." They constructed the paper through the collection of primary and secondary data. The primary data was collected through the use of interviews with hospitality industry executives located at various Strip operations. The members of this unique group will present their findings to the entire conference, as well as participate in several workshops to discuss the findings presented by the other delegations. Because UNLV is the only American university attending, this conference offers Guida with the unique opportunity to represent UNLV, not only as a student, but as a member of the women's soccer program, the city of Las Vegas, and the United States as a whole in an international setting.
