LAS VEGAS - Several current and former Rebels are currently playing this summer in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), including five current UNLV players on the Las Vegas Tabagators, who have posted a 3-4-1 record through the first eight games of the season.
Goalkeeper Jenna Huff, a WPSL First-Team All-Star selection last year, defender Emily Marcouiller, midfielder Ashly O'Harrow, and forwards Nickie Olson and Tanya Roberts are all on the Tabagators roster this summer, as is UNLV recruit Jessica Torres, who will be a defender on the Rebel team starting in the fall of 2005. The team, which is on a three-game unbeaten streak, plays its home games at Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex in Summerlin and have their next game coming up on Saturday, July 2 at home against Lamorinda East Bay Power at 6 pm..
Roberts has scored two goals and added two assists for the Tabagators, which is third best on the team, while Huff has been named defensive MVP of the game three times this season, which is the third most in the 21-team league.
Former Rebels that are also playing for the Tabagators are Blynnda Bascones ('05), Shannon Fredrickson ('03), Tania Lee ('04), Marni Polakow ('02), and Jenny Ruiz ('05). The only other current Rebel to be playing in the league is midfielder Jessica Brown for the Elk Grove Pride, while former UNLV standout Annii Magliulo ('05) is currently leading the league in scoring, having posted seven goals and four assists for 18 points for the California Storm.
