Magliulo, Huff Named To MWC Anniversary Team
July 23, 2008
LAS VEGAS - Two former UNLV players were named to the Mountain West Conference 10th Anniversary Women's Soccer Team, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday. UNLV was one of five schools to have players named to the 11-player team, as Annii Magliulo and Jenna Huff were the Rebels' two selections.
The team was selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel, and an on-line fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a first-team All-Mountain West selection at least once in their careers. BYU had a conference-high four players on the team, while UNLV, Utah and San Diego State all had two each, and Wyoming had one player to round out the selections.
Magliulo, a forward for UNLV from 2001-04, is the school's all-time leading scorer with 68 career points, and was named the 2004 MWC Offensive Player of the Year as she lead the Rebels to their first-ever regular season conference championship and first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. A two-time first team All-MWC selection, Magliulo also was named third team NSCAA All-West Region as a junior. She is also tied for most goals all-time at UNLV with 25, and is second with 18 assists. Her 25 points (11 goals, three assists) in 2002 is a program-high, while her 11 goals that year also are tied for most in team history.
Huff (2002-05) finished her career as one of the top goalkeepers in the MWC, and is the only goalie in league history to earn All-MWC honors three times. She holds three career records at UNLV, for goals against average (0.90), saves (305), and shutouts (26). During her senior year, she missed 10 games due to a broken foot in the preseason, but returned to lead the Rebels to a 10-3 record to end the season, which included the team's first MWC tournament title. Huff would allow just four goals during her 13-game stretch in 2005, giving her a 0.34 GAA which is a school record and would have ranked fifth in the nation if she had played enough games to qualify.
Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 seasons in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th season of play.
The MountainWest Sports Network - Mtn. will broadcast a series of special presentations highlighting the 10th year of the Mountain West Conference.
