The season begins for UNLV on Aug. 19 against UC Riverside. -

UNLV was picked to finish third in the 2011 Mountain West women's soccer preseason poll released Tuesday morning, while San Diego State was a very narrow favorite to win the 2011 title.

The Aztecs, 2010 MW Tournament champions, received four first-place votes for a total of 34 points, just one point ahead of 2010 MW regular season champion New Mexico, who had the other three first place votes and 33 total. UNLV was next with 24, and was followed by TCU in fourth (20), Wyoming in fifth (15), Boise State in sixth (14) and Air Force in seventh (7).

The Rebels, under second-year head coach Jennifer Klein, return six starters from last year's squad that finished 11-8-1, and 2-4-1 in conference play. Highlighting the returnees is junior midfielder Macy Jo Harrison and sophomore goalkeeper Kylie Wassell.

UNLV opens its season on Friday, Aug. 19 with a home contest against UC Riverside at 8:30 pm, the second game of the UNLV Rebel Classic. That will be followed by a Aug. 21 contest against UC Santa Barbara at 1 pm.
