UNLV was selected to finish in third place in the 2013 Mountain West women's soccer preseason poll released on Thursday afternoon by the league office. San Diego State was predicted to repeat as league champions.

UNLV received a total of 77 points, tied with 2012 WAC champion Utah State, which is in its first year in the Mountain West. The Rebels also received one first-place vote. SDSU finished with 99 points and nine first place votes for first, while New Mexico came in second with 86 points and one first place vote. Boise State was fifth with 61, Fresno State sixth (52), Wyoming seventh (45) and Nevada, Reno eighth (43). Newcomer San José State received 31 votes for ninth, Air Force was 10th with 20, and Colorado State, in its inaugural year, rounded out the poll in 11th with 12 votes.

The Rebels, under second-year head coach Michael Coll, bring back seven starters from last year's team that posted a 12-4-4 mark, including 3-1-3 in league play. The roster boasts three returning all-conference players in senior forward Jenn Wolfe (also an all-region pick in 2012), senior midfielder Courtney Botelho and senior goalkeeper Kylie Wassell.

UNLV opens its season with a pair of road games, starting on Friday, Aug. 23 at UC Riverside at 7 pm, followed by a Sunday, Aug. 25 contest at UC Irvine at 1 pm.
