Ranking The Rebels
Sept. 4, 2007
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team was rewarded for its third-ever 2-0 start in school history, as the Rebels are ranked in the region for the first time since Nov. 7 of 2005 in two different polls that were released on Tuesday. The Rebels are tied for eighth in the NSCAA West Region, which ties for their highest spot ever, while they are also 12th in this week's Soccer Buzz West Region.
This is the third season UNLV has been ranked regionally, as the Rebels were in the polls for the majority of the 2004 season and at the end of the 2005 year as well, and they advanced to the NCAA Tournament both seasons. The Rebels got off to their 2-0 start thanks to a 2-0 win over Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 31, followed by a 2-1 victory over Arizona State, with both wins coming in the UNLV adidas Classic.
The Rebels return to action on Friday, where they will face UCF, ranked 10th in the Southeast region by the NSCAA, while their opponent on Sunday is 22nd-ranked South Carolina, who upset No. 1 North Carolina on Sept. 1. Both games will be held in Orlando, Fla., in the UCF Invitational.
