LAS VEGAS - UNLV's women's soccer game at Auburn, scheduled for Friday night, has been canceled due to Hurricane Ivan striking the state of Alabama, the athletic department announced today.
The Rebels are still set to fly out for a Sunday 11 am contest at No. 7 Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. The Lady Vols are coming off a weekend in which they tied top-ranked North Carolina 0-0 in Knoxville, and are 2-1-2 overall after also posting a 4-3 overtime win over then No. 15 Duke to being the year. UT is led by Genna Gorman with two goals and two assists for six points, while Ali Christoph also has six points this season (one goal, four assists). Keeley Dowling had two goals as well, including one game-winner in 2004. Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart has seen all the time in goal for the Lady Vols, and has posted a 1.08 goals against average while recording 29 saves.
UNLV is riding a five-game non-beaten streak, and had won four straight until Rice benefited from an own goal to force a 1-1 tie on Sunday in Houston, Texas. The Rebels will bring a 4-1-1 record into Sunday's contest, and have their balanced scoring to thank for their success this season. Nine different players have combined to score UNLV's 11 goals this season, which ties BYU for the most team goals in the Mountain West Conference. Junior goalie Jenna Huff has been outstanding in goal, boasting a 0.78 goals against average, 34 saves, and leads the MWC with three shutouts for the year.
