Nero Earns Defensive Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Ciera Nero was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The weekly honor is the first in her career for Nero, and she is the second Rebel to earn defensive weekly honors this year, as Ashly O'Harrow was named for the week of Sept. 5.

Nero, a native of Alta Loma, Calif., posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time in her career to lead UNLV to the Blue Jay Classic title. She made two saves in a 1-0 win over North Dakota State on Sept. 22, and was very impressive against the host Creighton Blue Jays, coming up with seven saves to earn the shutout in a 1-0 victory on Sunday. For the year, Nero has a 1.27 GAA with a three shutouts.

The Rebels, 4-5-1 on the season, will next play this Friday at Arizona State at 6 pm.
