More Honors For Morin
Sept. 25, 2007
LAS VEGAS - One day after earning Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors, UNLV's Dani Morin was named to two different national teams of the week. Morin was on both Soccer America and Soccer Buzz's Team of the Week, as both were released on Tuesday. Morin becomes the second Rebel this season to earn Soccer America honors, and is the second player in school history to be named to both teams in the same week, after Tanya Roberts accomplished the same feat in the 2005 season.
A Saugus, Calif. native, Morin anchored the Rebels backline that posted back-to-back shutouts in the UNLV Rebel Classic, which included a 1-0 win over 11th-ranked Washington State, and a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Iowa State. She helped UNLV hold both opponents to just 14 shots over 200 minutes of play, including only five on goal. Morin was matched up against the top scorers for both Washington State (Kiersten Dallstream) and Iowa State (Leslie Hill). She held Dallstream, the team leader with three goals and seven points, to no shots for the game, and held Hill, Iowa State's leading scorer with two goals and six points, without a shot in the match. UNLV goalkeeper Alicia Lugo was forced to make just one save over the 110 minutes in the Iowa State contest.
The Rebels have also moved back into the regional rankings after a two-week absence, as they are tied 10th in this week's NSCAA West Region, and 11th in this week's Soccer Buzz West Region, highest rank for the team in Soccer Buzz since the 2004 season.
UNLV, 4-2-2 and riding a four-game unbeaten streak, will return to action this weekend, as they face Pacific on Stockton, Calif., on Friday night at 7 pm, before meeting in-state rival Nevada, Reno on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 pm in Reno.
