COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Tanya Roberts was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The weekly honor is the second in her career for Roberts, and she is the third Rebel to earn weekly honors this year, following Ashly O'Harrow (Sept. 5) and Ciera Nero (Sept. 25), both of whom earned defensive honors.

Roberts, a senior midfielder and native of Fremont, Calif., scored her second game-winning goal in three games on Sunday, a header in the 107th minute to give UNLV a 1-0 win over 20th-ranked Pepperdine. It was the first-ever win over a ranked team by the Rebels in the program's nine-year history. The previous Sunday, Roberts also scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win at Creighton on Sept. 24.

The Rebels, 2005 MWC Tournament champions, will open the conference season this Thursday at Utah, 2005 MWC regular season champions, in a 2 pm (PST) contest in Salt Lake City.
