LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV freshman forward Jenna Howerton has been named the Mountain West Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Rebels to a pair of wins this past weekend, the league office announced on Monday. It's the first career honor for Howerton, and the first weekly honor this season for any UNLV player. She shared the award with Wyoming's Sara Paul.
Howerton, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., scored both goals in UNLV's 2-1 overtime victory over Loyola Marymount on Sunday. She scored the game's first goal in the 52nd minute, and after LMU tied the game, Howerton knocked in her second game-winner of the season in the 99th minute to give the Rebels their second win of the weekend. It was also the first golden goal of her career. Her three goals are tied for first on the team, and she's also tied for third in points as well with six.
Riding a three-game unbeaten streak, UNLV (5-7-2, 1-0 MWC) will play a single contest this weekend, on the road at New Mexico in Albuquerque on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4 pm (PT).
