UNLV Weekly Soccer Notes

The UNLV women's soccer team (5-3-4) opens its 2007 Mountain West Conference schedule with one of the highlighted games of the league season, as they will be hosting Utah (8-2-2) on Thursday in a game regionally televised by The Mtn. network. The game will kickoff at 3 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field, and will also be rebroadcast nationally on CSTV on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm.

UNLV and the Utes have won either the regular season or tournament championship the past three years (UNLV won regular season in 2004, tournament in 2005 and 2006), and both teams played for the tournament title in 2006, with the Rebels prevailing 6-5 in a penalty kick shootout after a scoreless double-overtime tie.

The teams come into Thursday's matchup playing contrasting styles, as the Utes are tied for 16th in the nation in scoring with 2.5 goals per game. The Rebels meanwhile have allowed just eight goals all year, own a 0.62 GAA which ranks 30th in the nation, and have given up just one goal total at home through six games in 2007.

The Rebels will then host San Diego State (5-5-2) on Sunday at 1 pm, a team that is very comfortable playing away from home as the Aztecs have three road victories this season.
