UNLV weekly release

Thanks to an undefeated trip on the road, in which the UNLV women's soccer team knocked off Air Force and recorded a tie at Wyoming, the Rebels can seal their spot in the 2009 Mountain West Tournament with a win Friday against TCU, as they host the Horned Frogs in a 7 pm contest at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

TCU comes into the contest having lost three straight league games, and if UNLV claims a win on Friday, TCU will not have enough games left to pass the Rebels in the standings. The good news for UNLV though is if they don’t claim a victory on Friday, they still have two more games left in the league schedule to pick up enough points to qualify for one of the six spots in this year’s MWC tournament.

Sunday’s game will be another tough matchup, with the San Diego State Aztecs coming in for a Senior Day contest with a 1 pm start. SDSU is riding a nine-game losing streak, but has not posted a win over UNLV since the 2006 season.
Players To Watch
The offense thus far this year has come from sophomore forward Jenna Larkin with a team-high three goals, while senior midfielder Shannon Hughes has two goals, both of which are game-winners. Senior Alicia Lugo meanwhile has kept up her strong play in the nets. She has a 0.93 GAA and five shutouts, and is first in the MWC with 86 saves.

Lizzy Karoly is next with five goals and an assist for 11 points, while Kaylie Garcia and Nichelle Nguyen both have seven points on the season. Kelsey Walters has seen the majority of time in the goal, and has a 1.65 GAA with two shutouts and 44 saves.
