Rebels Take To The Road
Oct. 23, 2003
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team will play their final two road conference games of the season this weekend, and hope to earn their first Mountain West victory as well. The Rebels face New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday at 6 p.m., and then will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a Sunday contest at Air Force at Noon.
UNLV played its best conference game of the season against BYU on Saturday, but couldn't find a third goal as they fell 3-2 to the Cougars. That loss put the Rebels at 6-8-2 overall, and 0-3 in conference play. Goalkeepers Jenna Huff and Desiree Kelly have been very strong in goal for UNLV, helping the team post a 1.52 goals against average, fifth best in the league, and six shutouts on the season, one short of tying the school record set in 2001. On offense, the Rebels have been led by junior midfielder Anni Magliulo, second in the league in both points with 17 and goals with seven. Erin Egertson and Rachael Buscovich have both added three goals on the year.
New Mexico has struggled this year, bringing a 1-9-3 record and a 0-3 conference mark into Friday night's game. The Lobos only win of the season was a 1-0 victory at Idaho, and they have been outscored 13-2 in the last six games. In fact, New Mexico has scored just four goals on the entire season, with Kristine Sweat and Rachael Addison both posting two scores each. Kristen Winters has started all 13 games, and has 82 saves and a 1.37 goals against average for the year.
Also winless in the conference at 0-3 is Air Force. The Falcons, 6-8-1 overall, have yet to score in MWC play, losing to Utah, BYU, and Wyoming by a combined 10-0 score. Jennifer Rowland's four goals paces the squad, while Cookie Day, Meredith Benson, and Leigh-Anne Withers all have two scores on the year. J.J. Wolf is posting a 1.82 goals against average in goal, and has collected 91 saves.
