Oct. 29, 2006
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
UNLV will be the third seed in this week's 2006 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship, and will take on sixth-seeded Wyoming in a first round game on Wednesday at 3:30 pm (PST) as the conference announced the seedings on Sunday. This year's conference tournament is being held at Ute Field on the campus of Utah in Salt Lake City.
UNLV, the 2005 MWC Tournament champions, finished in a tie for third place with New Mexico, as both teams finished the regular season with nine points. However, the Rebels won the tiebreaker due to their 1-0 win over the Lobos earlier this month. Wednesday's other matchup features fourth-seed New Mexico and fifth-seed San Diego State, playing at 6 pm (PST).
Utah and BYU both received first-round byes. If UNLV wins its first game in the tournament, it will meet the second-seeded BYU Cougars on Thursday in the semifinals at 3:30 pm, in a game that will be televised live by the mtn.
The Rebels finished the regular season with a 8-10-1 record, and 3-4 in league play. In their matchup earlier this season with Wyoming (7-8-3, 2-3-2), the Cowgirls scored late in the second half to claim a 1-0 win in Las Vegas on Oct. 22.
