The UNLV women's soccer team hopes for a repeat performance from its season finale as it opens up play in the 2012 Mountain West Tournament on Wednesday night against fifth-seeded Fresno State in a first round game. The fourth-seeded Rebels, who claimed a 1-0 win at Fresno State on Oct. 27 in the regular season finale for both teams, are looking to advance to the semifinals for the third straight year. This year's tournament is being hosted by top seed San Diego State at the SDSU Sports Deck. Live stats are available for all games at UNLVRebels.com.
All About The Rebels
UNLV (11-3-4, 2-1-3 MW) finished the MW season with five shutouts, tops in the league and tying a program-best as well. The Rebels' only loss in MW play was to San Diego State by a 2-1 score in Las Vegas. The Rebels are paced by junior forward Jenn Wolfe, who is second in the MW in goals (11), points (24), and game-winners (five). Senior midfielder Macy Jo Harrison meanwhile has a school-record eight assists on the year, which ranks her second in the league, and junior Kylie Wassell leads the league with nine shutouts on the year. UNLV comes into the weekend having posted shutouts in six of its past eight games, and has only one loss total in the months of September and October, going 10-1-3 over that stretch.
Scouting Fresno State
The Bulldogs (4-10-5, 2-3-2) started out the year 0-6-3, but rebounded to win four of its past nine games before then falling to UNLV at home last weekend. Fresno State is paced this year by Callie Hancock with eight goals and 18 points, while Katie DeVault has a 1.58 GAA and 120 saves on the season in goal, which is 29 more then the next-best goalie in the conference.
