Senior Night Showdown|
Oct. 31, 2007
LAS VEGAS -
The stakes can't get any higher for UNLV on Friday night, as on their Senior Night, the Rebels will host 24th-ranked BYU in a battle between the top two women's soccer teams in the Mountain West. The contest will start at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Whoever wins Friday's contest would claim the regular season title, but a tie would also give the Rebels the championship, as they are one point ahead of BYU in the standings thanks to their tie with Utah.
Both teams also met in last year's regular season finale with second place on the line, and BYU prevailed 2-0 in Provo, which also earned them the right to host this year's MWC Tournament. The Rebels would gain revenge with a PK shootout victory in the 2006 tournament on the way to their second straight title.
Both teams are among the best in the nation defensively, as BYU is third with a .377 goals against average, while UNLV is 21st (.620), and both teams rank in the top 11 in save percentage (BYU 9th, UNLV 11th). UNLV has been strong at home this season, as they are 6-0-3 on its home field, and have allowed just a total of three goals all year.
