LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Three members of the UNLV women's soccer team received All-Mountain West honors as the league's season awards were announced on Tuesday by the league office. It was the first all-conference honor for all three players.
Senior forward Katherine Orellana was selected to the first team. A native of Downey, Calif., Orellana turned in the best year of her career this season, leading the Rebels and finishing in the top 10 in the conference in both goals with six and points with 16. She also posted one game-winner on the season, in the Rebels' 1-0 victory at Air Force on Oct. 21, while she had one multi-goal game on her record as well in 2011.
Junior defender Caitlin Allen was a second team selection for UNLV. A native of San Diego, Calif., Allen was the team's leader on the defensive backline that posted six shutouts and had a 0.99 team GAA. She also scored one goal on the year in a win over Boise State. The other second team selection was junior midfielder Macy Jo Harrison, a Napa, Calif., native. She scored seven points for the Rebels, all in conference play, off two goals and three assists.
The Rebels open play in the 2011 MWC Tournament on Wednesday as the fourth seed, and will meet fifth-seeded Boise State at 2 pm. New Mexico the host of this year's championships.
