Lugo Picks Up National Honors
Nov. 6, 2007
LAS VEGAS - For the second time in her career, UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Lugo has received a national weekly honor, as she was named to both Soccer Buzz's and Soccer America's Team of the Week on Tuesday, one day after picking up Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
It is the second time Lugo has been named to the Soccer America team, as she earned it for the week of Nov. 8 in 2006. She is also the second Rebel to ever be named to both teams in the same week.
Lugo, a sophomore from Lancaster, Calif., came up with 10 stops in goal while facing 16 shots from the Cougars to post her 10th shutout of the season, extending her school-record single-season shutout tally. For the season, she has a 0.59 goals against average and 92 saves.
UNLV also moved back into both regional rankings, as the team is eighth in the NSCAA West rankings, and 12th in Soccer Buzz's rankings.
The Rebels (10-4-5, 5-1-1 MWC) open play in the 2007 MWC Tournament as the top seed, and will face the winner of #4 Wyoming-#5 Utah on Thursday at 12 pm (PST) in Provo, Utah.
