Nov. 17, 2006
LAS VEGAS - The coaching staff of the UNLV men's and women's soccer teams will conduct the 2006 Holiday Soccer Camp, scheduled for Dec. 18-20 on Peter Johann Memorial Field on the campus of UNLV.
The camp, led by Rebel head mentors Kat Mertz, coach of the three-time defending Mountain West Conference women's champions, and Mario Sanchez, first-year head coach of the Rebel men, will offer children ages 5-13 the opportunity to learn from camp instructors with over 50 years of coaching and camp experience. The camp motives are to enhance the players individual, team and technical skills in a fun, competitive environment.
During the camp, coaches will stress the fundamentals on both sides of the ball. Offensive skills such as passing, shooting and dribbling will coincide with individual defensive work and positioning, Team games and small-sided scrimmages will also be part of the camp, along with a full-sided scrimmage to end the day's session.
The camp will run 9 a.m. (PST)-12 p.m. on Dec. 18-20 and will cost $100. Included with entry fee is a free camp T-shirt.
"This is a great opportunity for our soccer programs to reach out to the community," said men's soccer head coach Mario Sanchez. "As a whole, our coaching staff loves to teach the game to young players...I really am looking forward to interacting with the children and I expect for it to be a lot of fun."
