UNLV softball uses four-run third to spark its victory over a team comprised of former Rebels.
The UNLV softball program welcomes back former players to play against the 2013-14 Rebels this Saturday.
2003: Only player on the team to start all 60 games ... Led off and played left field ... Led the team in at-bats (186), runs scored (24) and stolen bases (9) ... Had 10 multiple-hit games ... Began the season with a season-best six-game hitting streak ... Earned Academic All-Mountain West Conference accolades ... Also serves on the UNLV Student-Athlete Advisory Board ... Wrote a weekly column for the school's web site ... Named Academic All-MWC.
2002: One of just three players to start all 64 games, and the only one returning in 2003 ... Started every game in left field ... Hit first and second in the lineup most of the year, and led the squad with 199 at bats ... Also paced the team in stolen bases (13-19) and sacrifice hits (15) ... Best game was a 4-for-4 effort against Colorado State in the MWC Tournament in which she scored a run and drove one in ... Went 3-for-5 in the win over Central Michigan, driving in a career-best two runs ... Named UNLV's Top Female Student-Athlete after posting a 3.93 GPA last spring ... Also voted to Academic All-MWC and Academic All-District VIII.
2001: Played in 41 games and started 33 ... Batted .193 in 83 at bats ... Best game was a 3-for-5 day at New Mexico in which she scored two runs and stole a base ... Named Academic All-MWC.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2000 graduate of Las Vegas Silverado High School ... Was a four-year letterwinner for coach Chuck Pope ... Led the Skyhawks to three straight zone titles, three Sunrise Division championships and a runner-up finish at state in 1999 ... As a senior, earned first team all-region and all-state honors after hitting .316 and stealing 21 bases ... Chosen to the 2000 U.S. Navy Scholastic All-America team.
PERSONAL: Bridget Lee Byrne was born Feb. 27, 1982, in Las Vegas ... The only daughter of Sheila Byrne and Lee Kiamar ... A member of the UNLV Honors College ... Softball's representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board ... Likes to spend time with family and friends ... Double majoring in Spanish and international business.
