Another new face on the Rebel bench this year belongs to volunteer coach Jim Peterson. Peterson will assist the team with all day-to-day duties and will serve as the Tournament Director for the UNLV Softball Classic.

A veteran of the fastpitch game with more than 20 years of experience as both a player and a coach, Peterson looks to bring his experience to the Division I arena.

"Coming from the men's fastpitch game, Jim brings a wealth of knowledge to our staff," head coach Lonni Alameda said. "His thought process is a little different than ours, and it helps expand our knowledge as a team. Plus, he was a slapper, so he has a lot to offer to our slappers and can help a lot with our short game."

A Seattle native, Peterson played fastpitch softball as an outfielder for 16 years including two ISC World Tournaments. He also spent four years as an assistant coach in the area, logging stints at Highline Junior College and North Thurston High School.

A 1984 graduate of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash., Peterson earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
