Rebels Rev It Up Against Detroit|
March 11, 2006
HONOLULU - The UNLV Rebels (13-12) picked up a much needed victory on Saturday afternoon following its rough day of play Friday. The Rebels defeated the Detroit Titans (1-5) 5-0 in the UNLV's next to final game in the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament hosted by the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine.
UNLV's Shannon Crisp (6-6) was the story of the game as she held the Titan offense to only one hit in her 5.0 innings of work, while going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI.
Crisp held the Titan bats at bay with the only blemish coming in the fourth inning on a leadoff bunt single by Sarah Dickey. Crisp ended her day in the circle with six strikeouts, while allowing no walks. She turned the ball over to Kelly Griego for the final two innings. Griego struck out three of the six batters she faced. In all, the Rebel pitchers faced the minimum UDM batters.
The Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth with help from a Becky McDonald single up the middle for two RBI. With Rosa Ordaz on first, Caitlyn Paus singled to center. Ordaz took third on the play, while Paus went to second on the throw. McDonald followed with her hit.
In the fourth, Crisp helped herself by adding three more runs to the Rebel lead. With two outs, Crisp cranked her home run over the left field fence after a single by Brittany Freight and a walk to Maggie Livreri.
The combined one-hitter was the first for the Rebels since April 16, 2005 against San Diego State. Jacque Kerrigan one-hit the Aztecs in a 2-0 UNLV win.
Up next for UNLV is the finale of the Spring Fling against the host Rainbow Wahine at 3 pm.
