Coach Fox To Be Inducted To Arizona Athletics' Hall Of Fame|
Feb. 27, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball head coach Kristie Fox, who is in her first season leading the Rebel program, will be inducted into the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 2018 class, Arizona Athletics announced Monday. The nine-member class will be inducted at a formal ceremony and dinner on Friday, Aug. 31, and will also be recognized during an on-field presentation at halftime of the Arizona football home opener against BYU on Saturday, Sept. 1.
A native of San Diego, Fox played for the Wildcats from 2004-07 and was a two-time All-American during her collegiate career. She reached the pinnacle of the college game as she led the Wildcats to back-to-back NCAA Championships during her junior and senior years (2006 and 2007). As a senior, she set a Women's College World Series record with 11 hits, helping the school to its eighth national crown in softball. She finished her career with a .350 batting average.
Fox calls the honor a "dream come true."
"When people think of Arizona softball, they think about national championships, but my experience was so much more than that," said Fox. "I played for a coach that taught us so many life lessons, I became a part of a sisterhood that means a lot to me, and I grew as a ball player and more importantly as a person. The university has provided me the opportunities and support to go out into the real world and continue to represent all the values that they helped instill in me. This honor is a dream come true and I can't wait to share this moment with all the people that have helped me along the way, especially my family. I would not have been able to do any of this without their love and support."
In her first season with the Rebels, Fox has led the team to an 11-4 record - its best start to a season since 2007. UNLV will be on the road for the second straight weekend, heading to Grand Canyon's Lopes Up Classic in Phoenix, March 2-4.
