Rebels Add One More to Next Year's Class|
May 3, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Softball has officially added another signee to its 2017-18 class, announced by head coach Lisa Dodd on Wednesday. The Rebels will welcome Mia Trejo next year, their fifth commitment for the incoming freshmen class. Trejo joins Cara Beatty, Samantha Diaz, Devynn Marshall and Emma Vesely, who signed national letters of intent in November. All five will begin classes in the fall and be eligible to compete starting in the spring 2018 season.
"Mia is another great addition to our incoming class," said Dodd. "She is an incredibly talented athlete, versatile in the field both as a pitcher and an infielder and is a strong presence at the plate. Along with our other incoming freshmen, Mia is a great student and I have no doubt that she and her entire class will be successful on and off the field."
Trejo, from Tucson, Ariz., is a four-year varsity softball letterwinner for Tucson High Magnet School, playing both third base and pitching for the Badgers. As a senior this spring, Trejo has helped her team to a 26-4 record, a conference championship and an upcoming playoff berth. She has earned several awards throughout her prep career. As a freshman she was named to her league's All-Freshmen team and was an All-Section First Team selection. She's a two-time All-Division Honorable Mention selection as well, earning the honors after her freshman and sophomore seasons, while she was Southern Arizona's Player of the Year and First Team All-Star selection after her junior campaign in 2015-16. Trejo most recently played club softball for the Oro Valley Suncats. She plans on majoring in Interior Design at UNLV.
The current Rebels have two series left in the 2017 campaign, starting this weekend at San Diego State and closing things out at home, May 11-13, against San Jose State.
