Rebels To Play In NISC Postseason Tournament, Host Regional

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball's stellar season isn't over quite yet as the Rebels received a bid Sunday night to the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC), which is sponsored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and operated by Triple Crown Sports, Inc., a company that produces events for college and youth athletics. UNLV will host a regional at Eller Media Stadium, May 16-18, in what will be its first postseason appearance since the Scarlet and Gray played in an NCAA regional in 2009.

The Rebels wrapped up the regular season with a 31-18 overall record, which included a fourth-place finish in the Mountain West after going 13-11 in conference play. It marked the first 30-win season for UNLV in eight years, first winning season since 2011 and best overall record since 2010. The Rebels finished out the season strong, winning 10 of its last 13 conference games to notch four straight MW series victories, including winning two of three at eventual conference champion Boise State and sweeping Fresno State for the first time in program history.

UNLV was one of 17 teams selected for the National Invitational Softball Championships. This is the second year of the tournament, which features eight teams that have won 30 games or more during the 2018 season and six teams that finished second or better during the regular season in their respective conferences.

First-round regional action begins Wednesday, May 16 - regional hosts are Northern Colorado, UNLV, Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas. Each double-elimination regional concludes play on either Friday, May 18 or Saturday, May 19. The Championship round, also double-elimination, is slated to begin Wednesday, May 23 at a host site to be determined.

The Rebels will welcome Weber State, UC Riverside, Utah Valley and in-state rival UNR in the Las Vegas Regional, which will begin Wednesday, May 16 at 12 p.m. with a matchup between Utah Valley (21-29) and Weber State (27-24). UNLV will face the winner of that game at 6 p.m. The 3 p.m. matchup will feature UC Riverside (33-22) and UNR (25-25).
