LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams celebrated the grand re-opening of Buchanan Natatorium on Friday afternoon with a Mountain West Conference meet against Wyoming. The Rebel men posted a 154.5-139.5 victory while UNLV's women's squad fell 196.5-102.5 to the Cowgirls.

In the men's meet, the Rebels (5-1, 3-0 MWC) held a six-point lead going into the final event before the 400 free relay team of Calan Eldridge, Kyle Virva, Charlie Tapp and Steven Nelms topped the Wyoming squad by almost three seconds to take first in a time of 3:03.81 and give UNLV the team victory. The Rebels would win a total of 10 events on the afternoon beginning with the first event of the meet as David Seiler, Andrew Morrell, Cody Roberts and Tapp posting a time of 1:31.34.

The Rebels won all five free events, with Nelms winning the 50 in 20.70 and the 100 in 46.59, while Kier Maitland placed first in the 500 (4:32.60) and in the 1000 (9:19.12). Vivra won the other free event, swimming the 200 in a time of 1:41.25. Also winning events on the day was Daniel Egly in the 200 fly (1:51.61) and Seiler in the 100 fly (49.56).

On the women's side, Ana Dangalakova won the 200 back in a time of 2:03.65, and also placed second in both the 100 back and the 400 IM. Other runner-up finishes from the women's squad included Brittany Ozar in the 1000 free, Marva Harpak in the 200 free, Marley Prothero in the 100 breast, Shawnee Landolt in the 500 free, and Carmen Robb in the 100 fly.

 

 

UNLV will have its Senior Day on Saturday as it hosts Air Force at 1 pm in Buchanan Natatorium.
