LAS VEGAS - UNLV's men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined to win 16 of the first 26 events of the day and cruised to a sweep over UC Irvine on Friday afternoon at Buchanan Natatorium. The Rebel men (5-1), paced by double-event winners Johan Claar, Joe Bartoch, and Eli Tanimoto, posted a 153-109 win, while Kim Bonney won two events to help the UNLV women (4-3) claim a 145-128 win.

Claar won the 200 free (1:41.72) and the 500 free (4:41.27), but saw his consecutive win streak snapped at 19 races after finishing second in the 200 fly (1:52.53), two seconds behind UCI's Randall Tom (1:50.26). Tanimoto won both the 1 meter (240.08) and 3 meter (248.10) diving events, while Bartoch placed first in the 100 free (45.84) and the 100 fly (49.38).

Also winning for UNLV was Brandon Nelms in the 50 free (20.78), Jonas Andersson in the 200 breast (2:05.18) while the Rebels opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay (Devin Phillips, Andersson, Bartoch, Nelms).

Bonney was victorious in both the 100 (1:05.05) and 200 breast (2:21.10) events. Also posting wins for the Rebel women was Marina Sandback in the 100 free (52.27), Ana Dangalakova in the 200 back (2:05.68), Lani Seaman in the 500 free (5:07.70), and Nichole McLean in the 3-meter diving (263.77). Jessie Bradshaw, Bonney, Sandback, and Katie Wronn teamed up to just touch out the Anteaters' in the 200 medley relay (1:46.22) to begin the meet.



UNLV will next close out its home season on Saturday, in a senior day meet against conference rival Air Force at 3 pm in Buchanan Natatorium.
