SAN DIEGO - The UNLV women's swimming and diving team swept five events and took first-second in five more to cruise past San Diego State in the Mountain West opener for both teams, 167-128 on Saturday afternoon at Joan Kroc Community Center.

Marina Sandback (50 free - 24.34 and 100 fly - 58.58), and Kim Bonney (100 breast - 1:06.92 and 200 breast - 2:24.08) both were double-event winners for the Rebels, preseason favorites in the conference. They also joined with Jessie Bradshaw and Tiffany Vincent to win the day's first event, the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:48.34.

Also winning events on the day for UNLV was Alison Zick in the 1000 free (10:23.95), Kari Nettenstrom in the 200 free (1:54.46), Brandy Champman in the 3-meter diving (238.05), Amanda Weinbrecht in the 200 back (2:05.06), and Lani Seaman in the 500 free (5:04.76). The Rebels would exhibition the last three events of the afternoon.

The Rebel women return to action on Sunday, Oct. 30 against Arizona State, in what will also be the first meet of the year for the UNLV men's team, at Buchanan Natatorium at 2 pm.
