LAS VEGAS - Two UNLV swimmers have been voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII University Division At-Large Teams as selected by sports information directors. Johan Claar was named to the Men's First Team, while Kim Bonney was named to the Women's At-Large Second Team for the season straight year.

Claar, a junior and native of Bankeryd, Sweden, was the Mountain West Conference champion in the 1650 free in this year's championship meet, swimming a time of 15:16.41 to break the previous UNLV record by more than 10 seconds. He also added two more top-four individual finishes (third in the 500 free, fourth in the 200 free), and helped the 400 and 800 free relays to first place finishes as well to help carry the Rebels to their third straight MWC championship title, as well as first-ever regular season MWC crown. Claar also holds the school record in the 1000 free and ranks second in the 500 free as well.

Claar, a two-time All-MWC Academic Team member and holder of the team's Top GPA this past season, carries a cumulative 3.78 GPA with a major in business.

Bonney, a junior and native of Cape Town, South Africa, had three top-five finishes at the 2007 MWC Championships, as she placed fourth in the 100 breast and 200 IM, and claimed fifth in the 200 breast. She was also on the first-place 200 medley relay as well as the second-place 400 medley relay at this year's MWC championship meet. Over the past three years she has a total of nine top-eight finishes at the conference championships, including the MWC 200 breast title in 2004. She was also named UNLV's Most Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete earlier this month for the second straight year, as she holds the highest cumulative GPA at the school.

Bonney, who was named Academic All-MWC in 2005 and 2006, carries a cumulative GPA of 3.89 with a major in accounting.

The at-large all-district team represents the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible.

District VIII is made up of schools in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
