LAS VEGAS - Ben Loorz has resigned as assistant swimming coach at UNLV to take over as the women's swimming head coach at Cal State East Bay, UNLV head coach Jim Reitz announced on Friday.

Loorz spent three years on the Rebel staff, and helped guide the men's team to three Mountain West Conference championships during that stretch, as well as a program-best 21st-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships. In addition to his on-deck coaching responsibilities, Loorz also served as UNLV's recruiting coordinator.

"We're always proud when our assistants get head coaching positions," said Reitz. "It confirms that we're preparing them appropriately for the next step in their coaching career. Ben is now the seventh assistant coach in my time here to get an NCAA head coaching job, and we wish him the best luck at his new school."
