LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After opening up its season on the road in New Mexico and Arizona, the UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have their home opener Saturday,as the Rebels will host BYU in the final meet between the two schools as members of the Mountain West Conference. The meet will start at 2 pm in Buchanan Natatorium on the UNLV campus.
The Rebel men bring a 2-0 record into the dual meet, which includes a upset win at Arizona last month. Five Rebels currently hold the top spot in the Mountain West Conference in six different events, and that doesn't include the top distance swimmer in the league the past two years, senior Kier Maitland, who was sick and missed the Arizona road trip. Steven Nelms is the one Rebel with top times in two events, in both the 50 free and the 100 free.
On the women's side, its a young Rebel team that is 2-2 on the year, and 1-0 in the league after a win at New Mexico. Freshman Jessica Heim has three top-four times to pace the women, ranking second in both the 500 and 1000 free and fourth in the 200 free thus far this season.
