LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the first time this season UNLV has swept the Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week awards, as Kier Maitland was named the Men's Swimmer of the week, while Jessica Heim won the women's award, the league office announced on Tuesday. It's the first award of the season for Maitland, and the second for Heim.

Maitland, a senior and native of Edmonton, Alberta, showed why he is the top distance swimmer in the Mountain West with a very strong performance in the UNLV Winter Invitational, held at UNLV on Dec. 11-13 and won by the Rebels. Maitland won all three of his events, the 200 free, 500 free, and 1650 free. His time in the 1650 free is currently the sixth fastest in the nation, while his 500 free time ranks 16th-best.

Heim, a freshman and native of San Diego, Calf., also helped UNLV to a first-place finish in the UNLV Winter Invitational after winning three individual events. She claimed wins in the same events as Maitland, the 200 free, 500 free and 1650 free.

UNLV returns to action on Friday, Jan. 7 against TCU at 4 pm in Las Vegas.
