Women's Tennis Opens Dual Season With Loss|

BERKELEY, Calif. - The 51st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team opened its 2013 dual-match season by losing to No. 41 Saint Mary's, 5-2, Sunday in the first round of the fifth annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend tournament.
Playing as part of the Berkeley, Calif., site, the Lady Rebels started out strong by taking two of three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic downed Catherine Isip and Elizabeth Searl 8-5 at the No. 1 position and Aleksandra Josifoska and Iren Kotseva doubled up Jade Frampton and Danielle Flores at the second spot.
In singles, UNLV's only victory came at No. 2 when Batta swept Isip 6-2, 6-1. The Gaels (1-0) eventually clinched it at the top of the lineup when 64th-ranked Jenny Jullien outlasted No. 20 Josifoska, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Lady Rebels now move into the consolation match Monday starting at 10 a.m. vs. No. 59 Fresno State. The Bulldogs fell 4-0 to the host Golden Bears earlier in the day.
