Women's Tennis Suffers Road Defeat

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV women's tennis team played its first road match of the season Saturday afternoon and fell 6-1 to UC Santa Barbara at the Robertson Gym Tennis Courts.

The Rebels dropped to 0-2 while the Gauchos improved to 2-2 on the young season.

UCSB won two close doubles matches, each by the score of 7-5, to earn a 1-0 lead. In singles, only two matches were extended to three sets and UNLV scored its only point of the day in one of them as Mercedes Lopez Valez rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the super-tiebreaker to defeat Priscila Garcia 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).

The Rebels will next be in action a week from today when they host Kansas starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
