Opponents Shut Out Of Weekend
Feb. 10, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The 57th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won its third straight match, 4-0, over Weber State on a sunny but cool Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Lady Rebels improved to 3-2 on the season after not allowing a single point over the weekend.
UNLV got on the board first by winning the two completed doubles matches for one team point. Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic won 8-2 over Kristi Elmer and Thais Kurer at the top position while Aleksandra Josifoska and Janine Erasmus won 8-0 over Ashley Tanner and Megan Rindlisbacher on court two.
Because of travel concerns, the teams agreed to stop when the match was decided and singles ended quickly and the hosts posted three straight-set wins.
Pavlovic downed Nittaya Phonharath, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3; Ella Bourchier defeated Annika Karlsen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5; and Alexis Garrett earned her first dual-match victory as a Rebel, 6-1, 6-0, over Carly Lloyd on court six.
UNLV is next in action on Friday when it hosts another doubleheader, vs. San Jose State at 10 a.m. and Southern Utah at approximately 2 p.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
