LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The 58th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team only dropped one set in downing Southern Utah 7-0 in its second match of the day Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Lady Rebels improved to 4-3 overall after a day that saw them open with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of San Jose State.
UNLV swept the doubles matches for one team point. Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic won 8-1 over Olva Kunz and Aleksandra Ivanova at No. 1; Aleksandra Josifoska and Janine Erasmus downed Veronika Rogova and Madeline Skaras at No. 2; and Ella Bourchier and Alexis Garrett won 8-3 against Anastasia Vasileva and Afton Staheli on court three.
In singles play, Josifoska, ranked 19th in the nation, rolled past Kunz, 6-0, 6-1; Batta got by Rogova, 7-6, 6-1; Pavlovic used a super-tiebreaker to fight off Ivanova, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4); Anett Ferenczi-Bako defeated Skaras, 6-2, 6-2; Bourchier won 6-1, 6-0 over Vasileva; while Garrett won by that same score over Afton at the final position.
Next up, UNLV hosts BYU a week from today starting with doubles at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
